Based on a Survey carried out by the Technology Strategy Board recently, 90 % of people in the UK are not looking forward to older age.  Nearly half of the people surveyed (43%) think that better products and services to sustain independence would change this. 79 % of people in the UK want more innovation in products and services for older age.

Fascinating to read today from Withers & Rogers that helium and platinum are just two of the earth's elements that are under serious threat of becoming unavailable in less than a century. 

In fact, so important have the rare earth elements become to modern industry that China which supplies around 95% of global demand for these materials, has compared its large reserves of rare earth elements to that of the Middle East oil reserves. 

It is therefore anticipated that there will be a huge rise in the near future for Intellectual Property Rights following Innovations mainly in the chemical field relating to either replacing these rare earth elements; re-cycling them or improving the yield obtained from metal ores. 

This shows how Innovation plays such an important role in every day life - have a think about this when you next see a Helium Balloon!
